Stair lift types

Stair Lift Types We Install

Heartland sells and installs AmeriGlide stair lifts: straight lifts for a single flight (starting at $4,995 plus tax, delivered and installed), curved lifts for turning staircases, outdoor lifts for porch and deck steps, and inspected refurbished units. Your staircase decides which fits, so every recommendation follows an in-person measurement.

Choose the type that matches your staircase

Straight Stair Lifts

For a staircase with no turns, bends or landings. The rail is cut to length, so it is normally the simplest and quickest lift to measure and install.

Curved Stair Lifts

For a staircase that turns, bends or pauses at a landing. The rail is made to fit your stairs, so it needs a detailed measuring visit and a longer lead time.

Outdoor Stair Lifts

For porch, deck and entry steps. It works like an indoor lift, with components and covers chosen for rain, snow, sun and Missouri temperature swings.

Refurbished Stair Lifts

Inspected, cleaned, sanitized and tested before being offered. Can lower the cost, mostly on straight stairs, depending on stock.

Curved stair lift

AmeriGlide Infinity Curved Stair Lift

The AmeriGlide Infinity is an indoor curved stair lift with a rail made to follow a staircase with turns, bends or landings. Its configuration depends on detailed measurements of the home, so this page is an educational overview rather than a promise that it fits a particular staircase.

Indoor straight stair lift

Harmar Pinnacle SL600HD

The Harmar Pinnacle SL600HD is an indoor straight stair lift with a manufacturer-rated 600-pound capacity and 14-feet-per-minute travel speed. It is designed for one straight flight; an in-home measurement is still needed to confirm rail length, clearances and safe access.

How the three types differ

  • Straight — one rail, cut from standard sections, for a single flight with no turns or intermediate landings. Normally the quickest to install.
  • Curved — a rail manufactured to your staircase's exact geometry, for turns, quarter-turns, half-turns and continuous travel around a landing. Some staircases with a landing can instead use two straight lifts, but only where the rider can transfer safely.
  • Outdoor — weather-resistant components and a protective cover, for exterior porch, deck and entry steps.

What is the same across all three

Every lift we install is mounted to the stair treads rather than the wall, so the load is carried by the staircase structure. Every lift folds up when parked so the stairs stay usable, and every lift is operated both from the seat and from remote controls at the top and bottom of the flight.

Installation is done in your home without rebuilding the staircase, and we walk through operating the lift with everyone in the household before we leave.

How we decide what to recommend

We measure the rise, the run, the pitch, the head clearance and the space at each end of the staircase. We also look at where doorways sit, where a power supply can be reached and how much walking width is left when the seat is folded.

You get the recommendation and the total cost in writing before you decide anything. If we think a different solution suits you better than a stair lift, we will say so.

Common questions

Which stair lift do I need?
A single flight with no turn or landing takes a straight lift, a turning staircase usually needs a curved rail, and exterior steps need an outdoor lift. A landing does not automatically mean curved: two straight lifts can sometimes work, but only where the rider can transfer safely at the landing. Rick confirms the type in person.
Do stair lifts attach to the wall?
No. The rail is fixed to the stair treads, so the staircase structure carries the load and the mounting works whether or not there is a wall alongside.
Can the staircase still be used by everyone else?
The seat, arms and footrest fold up when parked. How much clear width that leaves depends on your staircase, which we measure during the assessment.
