How Much Does a Stair Lift Cost?
At Heartland, basic straight stair lift installations start at $4,995 plus sales tax, and that includes delivery and standard installation. Curved, outdoor and specialty lifts cost more and are priced after Rick measures the staircase. Every job gets a written scope and price, valid for 30 days, before anything is ordered.

Why the starting price is only a starting point
The biggest cost driver is the rail. A straight rail is cut from standard sections, which is why straight lifts have a published starting price. A curved rail is manufactured for one specific staircase, so it can only be priced after measuring.
Length of travel, whether the lift is indoors or outdoors, how the seat needs to park at the top, and how easily power can be reached all change the final number.
How quotes and payment work
- You receive a written scope and price after the assessment
- The quote is valid for 30 days
- A 50% deposit is due to order; the balance is due when installation is complete
- The quote states scope and price clearly; it is not guaranteed to be itemized line by line — ask if you want a breakdown
Comparing quotes fairly
Compare the same things: the rail type, the exact model, what's included in installation, how service after installation is handled and what the warranty says in writing. There's no automatic price match, but Rick will review a written quote for comparable equipment and scope.
Options when managing the upfront cost
- Ask about a refurbished lift, which is inspected, cleaned, sanitized and tested before sale
- Ask about financing, which may be available subject to qualification — it spreads payments out, but interest and fees can make the total you pay higher
- Check whether any coverage applies — Original Medicare generally does not cover stair lifts
